Baby Dedication Sunday

Children are very important to the Lord and to us at Joy Christian Center. We take God’s Word seriously and to heart. Matthew 19:14-15 (KJV) reads: But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.

It is our custom to dedicate children to the Lord. This is to testify that we believe God will make a difference in their lives. We do dedications for children from the ages of birth to 24 months.

Child dedication is a three-fold dedication:

1.  Parents dedicate themselves to the Lord.

~ Scripture tells us in Proverbs 22:6 (KJV) Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. This is a responsibility that the Lord gives to you.

2.  Parents dedicate their child to the Lord. 

~ This is an act of trust and dependence in the Lord.

3.  Our dedication to parents.

~ We as church leadership, along with this congregation, dedicate once again to provide quality ministry to your family. We will provide a ministry that is age appropriate and meaningful for each family member.

By dedicating your child, you are making a vow before God to raise your child in the knowledge of God and His Word. If you decide to have sponsors or godparents for your child, their role in your child’s spiritual life is to hold you accountable to the vow you are making in dedicating your child. Child dedication does not establish a legal guardianship for your child through sponsors or godparents should a guardianship need arise.
